NCABCO President Endorses Financial Support For Greater Diversity News’ “A Call to Colors” – GDN Exclusive, Vol. II, Part XXVIII

Saying that “…collective power incites collective action, the president of the North Carolina Association of Black County Officials [NCABCO] has come out with strong support for Greater Diversity News’ “A Call to Colors” [ACTC] voter education, registration and mobilization campaign.
But not only does NCABCO President Renee A. Price strongly endorse the “urgent mission and goals” of ACTC but has also joined the call for the need for financial support for the campaign, and other historically underutilized businesses [HUBs].
“I agree that we need to stay vigilant and put our support behind this effort called ACTC. Both through our feet and our wallets, if we can,” Price, who is also an Orange County commissioner up for reelection in 2020, told Greater Diversity News (GDN).
“Unfortunately, a lot of what happens these days is through money – …we need to have those resources to help people get to the polls, and so we can educate people, and get them motivated, and mobilized, and to the polls.”
Commissioner Price, a Democrat, was first elected to the Orange County Board of Commissioners representing District 2 in 2012. She currently serves as board vice-chair.
Price, a 1978 graduate of Cornell University, is also co-founder and project director of Free Spirit Freedom, a cultural arts initiative, operating under the Hillsborough Arts Council umbrella, that builds bridges of cross-cultural understanding through photographs and storytelling.
Price noted that because NCABCO is a member organization of the North Carolina Black Alliance [NCBA] – which has also come out in strong support for ACTC through its president, Sen. Valerie Foushee – then it can only do likewise.
“No time is better than now, particularly in North Carolina, for like-minded organizations to align our approaches to voter education, registration and mobilization,” Price wrote in a recent letter of support for ACTC.
“We at NCABCO are proud of the work we do, and we value all opportunities to connect with those who hear the voices of the communities, because they serve as catalyst for our local and statewide agendas.”
“On behalf of the members of NCABCO, I commend the champions of the “A Call to Colors” campaign – [GDN publisher] Peter Grear. J. D.; Dr. E. Lavonia Allison and Carnell Robinson – for bringing this outstanding vision to fruition,” President Price concluded.
ORGANIZING YOUR VOTER MOBILIZATION MODEL
- Create a standing voter participation committee in your organization,
- Ask each organizational member to volunteer 8, 16, 24 hours or more per election cycle,
- Volunteer through the NAACP or other nonpartisan organizations,
- Have a member assigned to NAACP meetings to help keep your
organization abreast of its civic engagement activities, and - Keep records of your volunteer hours.
